October, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians, It is amazing that our first month of school is over. We are in “full swing” in our virtual classroom. Our days are full and very busy. October Calendar Please review the attached October calendar to see when special assignments, such as book reports and Poetry Share, are due. Also, to check if your child any assignment that are due, go to Google Classroom. Click on the “hamburger” in the upper left corn. Choose “To Do” to see assignments that are due. Mystery Pizza Book Report – Wednesday, Nov. 4. October’s book report form is going to be in Friday's materials pick-up. This month, students read a mystery and fill in the pieces of a pizza, then decorate and attach yummy “toppings.” Please digitally send in a photo of your child with their pizza and also scan the filled-in reflection sheet. Jogathon YIPPEE, we’re having a Jogathon (virtually). Go to the school’s website today to get the link! Start collecting donations from family, friends, and neighbors. Also, YOUR design could be selected for our t-shirts. This event helps our school is so many ways. Even during Distance Learning, the PTO is always busy going good for Phoebe Hearst. Homerun Reader Phoebe Reads! It was very exciting to hear the top 20 readers from our school announced in Friday’s video. Homerun Reader will be digital this year. Go to the school’s website to read more information and fill in the Google form. In Language Arts, we started our unit on “Government”. The “Government” unit is centered around the essential question “Why do people participate in government?”. We will read about government working with its people for the common good, people who have made a positive change for others, as well as, voting history and voting rights. Poetry Share For the week of October 19th, your child needs to memorize a poem that has eight lines, not counting the title and author. Any extra lines can be “banked”, or saved to be used later in the year. If your child finds a poem from someplace other than our digital class poetry book, please email a copy of the poem before the day they recite their poem. I want to accurately count the lines and lend a hand if a little help is needed. Book Order If you’re interested in lots of cool books, check out the flyers at www.clubs.scholastic.com.
