Dear Room 25 Family,
Welcome to Room 25’s third-grade family! I am very excited to begin another school year and we look forward to a great year with your child. I hope that you don’t find all of this information overwhelming. I will be sending more information about each piece and going over it with the students.
Goals for our 3rd Graders…
At the beginning of each month, I will email a calendar highlighting the “special” assignments that will be due that month. Please keep this calendar posted in a visible place so that your child can refer to it during the month. “Special” assignments will be listed on our online Google Calendar.
Who Am I? assignment
“Who Am I?” digital project is due Friday, Sept. 11. We use these assignments as part of building a classroom community. It is already posted on our Google Classroom. I will show students my example and explain that doing a little each day is the way to tackle this project.
“BE” picture email or text to Mrs. B by Friday, Sept. 18. This project works best if the picture of «nickname» is not too close up and has a plain background. This project is attached to this packet. We will use the picture for a Social Emotional Activity.
Poetry Share: Week of Sept. 21
Your child will be memorizing a published poem each month and share to the class as part of our Zoom meetings. September’s poem needs to be six lines or more, not counting the title and the author. Each month, the amount of lines will increase by two lines. The calendar will let you know when your child is presenting. Any “extra” lines can be saved and used to do a smaller poem later in the year. This site has a whole section/tab dedicated to poetry.
September Book Report: due Wednesday, Sept. 30
This month's book report was inspired by the book The Memory String by Eve Bunting. This book report works best with a piece of fiction. Your child may read the book report book AND work on the book report during D.E.A.R. Time.
It is important that your child’s at-home reading book is “Just Right”- not too easy, not too hard, but just right. 3rd graders should be able to read AND understand what their book is about. Most 3rd graders should be reading books that are more than 50 pages.
Scholastic Book Order is due Sat., Sept. 19.
I will send an email with the directions and the links for ordering books from Scholastic. However you choose to order, putting our class code H6TXC will help me earn free books for our class library and for students.
Sept. Book List and Book Review: due Oct. 7
Each month, «first» will write down any completed books on «possess» online Book List and Review page. At the end of the month, «nickname» will pick one book to do a book review about. In class, we will go through the steps and complete examples of a book review.
Eureka Math – Module 1
Our first unit is about Properties of Multiplication and Division and Solving Problems with 2-5 and 10. We build on second grade knowledge of addition and work toward greater fluency. We will also be building arrays. Time to get a pack of flash cards and mastering the multiplication facts!
See the tab for Eureka Math on this site for more information.
